A tropical rainforest is teeming with wildlife that is beautiful, but often hard to see. Hidden Jungle’s climate-controlled environment allows you to see delicate and fascinating tropical birds and plants. The dense growth and variety of plants provide cover and food sources for Hidden Jungle residents.
Begin your Hidden Jungle trek in an earthen crevass beneath the rainforest floor. As your eyes adjust to the dark, you can pick out tree roots snaking down the mud walls from the world above. Continuing along the path, you’ll reach the understory and canopy layers of the forest, where you’re surrounded by foliage in every shade of green in nature’s paint box; as well as African birds, such as the paradise-whydah, with its impossibly long tail. Look for colorfully named birds, such as the pink pigeon, purple grenadier, and blue-capped cordon bleu.
Each spring, Hidden Jungle gets an added dose of color during our Butterfly Jungle experience, when thousands of colorful butterflies emerge and add their fluttering presence to this extraordinary habitat. They adorn orchids, bromeliads, lantanas, and even our guests!
